Achieve greater Speaking Fluency
While speaking, do you ever stop and ask yourself?
*Is it lose the train or miss the train?
*Is it make a call or do a call?
*Is it earn money or gain money?
*Is it fix an objective or ...?
*Is it respect a deadline or ...?
Stopping to think about what words go with what words slows you down. It interrupts the flow of communication.
It greatly affects your speaking fluency.
How do you prevent that from happening?
You learn collocations: common word combinations.
Collocations allow you to speak more easily and more naturally, express yourself directly in English, without translating in your head.
And this is what fluency is all about: easy natural communication.
To give you a better idea of what collocations are, let's see a few more examples:
If I say social
you say ...
If I say video
you say ...
If I say ice
you say ...
Yes, there is more than one correct answer, but the word that immediately comes to mind as soon as you hear social is media | video - game | ice-cream.
Now let's take it up a notch: what's the right verb combination in the following examples:
They ______ a meeting** for tomorrow at 4pm. I need to ______ it (the meeting)**. Apparently our manager is going to ____ an important speech**.
Did you stop and think or were able to spontaneously come up with the right verbs?
